May 1 in Gennett History…

1923: The Vaughan Quartet recorded “Singing a Wonderful Song” in Richmond.  It appeared on Vaughan 700 and featured G. Keifer Vaughan (v) and Walter B. Seale (v).  

1925: Perley Breed’s Orchestra recorded “Honey, I’m in Love with You” in NYC.  The recording appeared on Gennett 3058.  The track featured Warren Hookway (c), Perley Breed (sax), Brad Gowens (cl), Newell Chase (p), Julie Anderson (bj), George Dussault (d).  

1928: The McDonald Quartette recorded “Oh Declare His Glory” in Richmond.  The recording appeared on Gennett 6467 and Champion 15504.  The recording featured Alvin McDonald (vox), Harold McDonald (tenor vox), Ralph McDonal (baritone vox), and W.E. Smithmire (bass vox).  A Champion ledger notes sales of approx. 3,000 copies between 1928 and 1930. 

1929: Carson Robison recorded “Why Did I Get Married” in NYC. It was released on Gennett 6854, Champion 15746, and Supertone 9423. The Champion issue sold 37,435 copies between 1929 and 1932.
