April 28th in Gennett History…

1930: Bill Cox recorded “My Rough and Rowdy Ways” in Richmond. The recording appeared on Gennett 7226, Champion 16009, and Supertone 9724. The track featured vocalist Bill Cox on guitar.

1934: Charley Patton passed away. He recorded 14 sides in Richmond for Paramount Records on 6/14/1929, including “Shake It and Break It (But Don’t Let It Fall Mama).” It appeared on Paramount 12869. The fourteen sides were: mx. 15211 – “Mississippi Boweavil Blues” mx. 15214 – “Screamin’ and Hollerin’ the Blues” mx. 15215 – “Down the Dirt Road Blues” mx. 15216 – “Pony Blues” mx. 15217 – “Banty Rooster Blues” mx. 15220 – “It Won’t Be Long” mx. 15221 – “Pea Vine Blues” mx. 15222 – “Tom Rushen Blues” mx. 15223 – “A Spoonful Blues” mx. 15224 – “Shake It and Break It (But Don’t Let It Fall Mama)” mx. 15225 – “Prayer of Death – Part 2” mx. 15225 A – “Prayer of Death – Part 1” mx. 15226 – “Lord I’m Discouraged” mx. 15227 – “I’m Going Home.”
