March 13 in Gennett History…

1923: the New Orleans Rhythm Kings recorded “Tin Roof Blues” in Richmond. This historic session appeared on Gennett 5105, Buddy 8001, Starr-Gennett 9435, Temple 521, and UHCA 87. The track featured Paul Mares (c), George Brunies (tb), Leon Rappolo (cl), Mel Stizel (p), and Ben Pollack (bjo). 

1923: Henry Moeller recorded “I Hear You Calling Me” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 10073 and featured Moeller (v). 

1929: Catherine Boswell, “The Sunshine Girl,” recorded “I’ve Been a Fool About You” in Richmond.  It appeared on Gennett 6805 and featured Boswell (v). 

1991: Jimmy McPartland passed away. He recorded two tracks on Gennett with the Wolverine Orchestra. They appeared on Gennett 5620, Starr-Gennett 9611, and Tempo R-24. Both recordings featured Dave Harmon (vox), Jimmy McPartland (c), George Brunies (tb), Jimmy Hartwell and George Johnson (sax), Dick Voynow (p), Min Leinbrook (bs), Bob Gillette (bjo), and Vic Moore (d).
