March 14 in Gennett History…

1922: Lloyd Barber’s Green Mill Orchestra recorded “Wigwam Blues” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 4851 and Starr-Gennett 9239. 

1923: The Hawaiian Entertainers recorded “Honeymoon Chimes” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 5109, Starr-Gennett 9376, Chantal 807, Edison Bell Winner 3871, and Vocalion X-9884.  Vernon Dalhart singing the chorus is crossed out on the recording card. 

1928: Bob Hendry of WLS recorded “Back in Bonnie Scotland” in Chicago.  It appeared on Supertone 9218 and Silvertone 8234 and featured Hendry (v) with the Hathaway Trio. 

1929: Duke Laney and his Orchestra recorded “Some Sweet Day” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6800 and Champion 15699 (~1500 copies sold) and featured Ralph ‘Red Head’ Smith (v).
