March 12 in Gennett History…

1923: The New Orleans Rhythm Kings recorded “Shim-me-sha-wabble” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 5106, as well as reissue labels British Rhythm 1004, Jazz Classic 503 and L-27, and Vinylite Jazz Reissues 24.. This recording featured Paul Mares (c), George Brunies (tb), Leon Rappolo (cl), Mel Stitzel (p), and Ben Pollack (bjo). 

1929: Catherine Boswell “The Sunshine Girl” recorded “I Just Can’t Wait (I’ve Gotta See My Baby” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6805 and Champion 15703 (~600 copies sold) and featured Boswell (v).  

1929: Jack Bain recorded “My Mother’s Eyes” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 6786 and Supertone 9359 and featured Bain (v).
