February 7 in Gennett History…

1923: Aileen Stanley recorded “Seven or Eleven (My Dixie Pair O’ Dice” in NYC. It appeared on Gennett 5071 and Starr-Gennett 9362. 

1927: Ernest Stoneman and his Grayson County Boys recorded “Round Town Gals” in New York City.  It appeared on Gennett 6052 (spelled Greyson on label), Champion 15248 (987 copies sold), and Silvertone 5003 & 25003 and featured Stoneman (g), Bolen Frost (bjo), and Kahle Brewer (f). 

1929: Willie Baker recorded “Mama Don’t Rush Me Blues” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6766. 

1931: Maynard Britton from Big Creek, Clay County, Kentucky, recorded “The Drunkard’s Hell” in Richmond. It appeared on Champion R-16543 (28 copies sold) & 45051 and featured Britton (v & g).
