February 6 in Gennett History…

1902: Happy 121st Birthday, George Brunies! (2/6/1902). Brunies recorded with Friar’s Society Orchestra, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, and the Wolverine Orchestra at Gennett. His first session at Gennett was with Friar’s Society Orchestra. “Bugle Call Blues” was recorded on 8/29/1922 in Richmond and appeared on Gennett 4967. 

1923: Billy Jones and Ernest Hare recorded “Down by the Old Apple Tree” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 5055 and Starr-Gennett 9355 and featured Hare (v) and Jones (v).

1936: Al Miller and his Swing Stompers recorded “Ain’t That a Mess” in Chicago. It appeared on Champion 50072 and Decca 7830.
