August 1 in Gennett History…

1924: The Kentucky Blowers with Roll Williams recorded “Charley, My Boy” in NYC. It appeared on Gennett 5517, Claxtonola 40352, and Starr-Gennett 9596. The recording featured Bill Moore (c), Adrian Rollini (b.sax), Irving Brodsky (p), Tommy Felline (bjo), and Stan King (d).

1927: Berta Ross recorded “Mr. Jelly Blues” in Birmingham, AL.  The recording appeared on Gennett 6227 and Champion 15360.  The Bessemer Blues Pickers and Vance Patterson (pn) accompanied her.  

1927: Frankie “Half-Pint” Jaxson recorded “She Got It” in Chicago.  The recording appeared on Gennett 6244 and featured Jaxson (v) and prob. Blache Smith Walton (pn).  

1928: The Mattes Trio recorded “Russian March” in Richmond.  It appeared on Gennett 6897 and Supertone 9076.
