July 31 in Gennett History…

1925: Happy Lawson and his Blue Uke recorded “Anytime” in Richmond.  The recording appeared on Gennett 3108.  While Lawson’s session did not produce any major hits, his song “Anytime” became somewhat of a standard in country music, as Eddy Arnold, Patsy Cline, and others scored Top 20 Hits.  Here is Patsy Cline’s version.

1930: Alura Mack recorded “82 Years Blues” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 7295, Champion 16170, and Superior 2572 (as Clara Andrews). The Champion issue sold 558 copies in 1931.
