July 29 in Gennett History…

1927: Tommy Dandurand and his Gang recorded “Over the Ocean Waves” in Chicago.  It appeared on Gennett 6436, Silvertone 5060, 8128, & 25060, and Supertone 9161 and featured Ed Goodreau (v) and Dandurand (f). 

1929: Mae Glover recorded “Shake It Daddy” in Richmond.  The recording appeared on Gennett 6964, Champion 15814, Champion 50051, Superior 2642, and Supertone 9474.  The recording featured Glover (gtr. & vox), John Byrd (vox).  The Champion 15814 issue sold approx. 13,000 copies between 1929 and 1932. 

1929: George Jones and his Congregation recorded “That White Mule of Sin” in Richmond.  It appeared on Gennett 6979, Champion 15816, and Supertone 9518 and featured John Byrd (v & g) and Sister Jones (v).  The Champion issue sold over 3,000 copies.
