June 22 in Gennett History…

1923: Ladd’s Black Aces recorded “Broken Hearted Blues” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 5187, Starr-Gennett 9426, and Edison Bell Winner 3948.  Th track featured Phil Napoleon (t), Charlie Panelli (tb), Jimmy Lytell (cl), Frank Signorelli (pn), and Jack Roth (d). 

1927: Bill Bishop recorded “Medley of Old Favorites, pt 1” in St. Paul.  It appeared on Gennett 6203, Champion 15331 (~6,500 copies sold), Challenge 308, Silvertone 5081 & 8184, and Supertone 9171 and featured Bishop (g & h).  

1928: Byrd Moore recorded “The Bully of the Town” in Richmond.  It appeared on Gennett 6763 and Supertone 9399 and featured Moore (v & g) and Marion Underwood (bjo). 

1933: Beverly Long recorded “Soldier’s Sweetheart” in Richmond. It appeared on Champion 16659 and featured B. Long (v) and Jimmy Long (g).
