June 17 in Gennett History…

1926: Elvira Johnson recorded “Numbers on the Brain” in NYC.  It appeared on Gennett 3337 and Champion 15126 (358 copies sold) and featured Johnson (v) with the Birmingham Darktown Strutters which included Clarence Williams (pn). 

1927: The St. Paul Police Band recorded “The New Colonial March” in St. Paul.  It appeared on Gennett 6213 and featured thirty-five members.  

1927: Pianist, Sidney Williams recorded “Mississippi Shivers” in St. Paul, Minnesota. The recording appeared on Gennett 6353, Gennett Personal 20339, Champion 15372, and Herschel Gold Seal 2020. The Champion issue sold approx. 3,000 copies between 1927 and 1929.
