January 8 in Gennett History…

Celebrate today with Ted Gossett’s String Band recording of “Eighth of January.”  They made this side on 9/19/1930 in Richmond and it appeared on Champion 16160, Superior 2655, and Supertone 9776.  The band featured Earl Nossinger and Enos Gusset (g), Pete Woods (bjo), and Ted Gossett (f).  The Champion side sold 885 copies between 1931 and 1933. 

1932: Doc Perkins and his Orchestra recorded “Too Late” in Richmond.  It appeared on Champion 16376 (79 copies sold) and Superior 2781.

1936: The Mound City Blue Blowers recorded “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” in NYC.  It appeared on Champion 40082.
