Hoagy Carmichael Gennett Walk of Fame Medallion

1927: Hoagy Carmichael and His Pals recorded “Star Dust” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6311 and Sentry 4011. The recording featured Hoagy Carmichael (v, c, & p), Byron Smart (c), Oscar Rossberg (tb), Gene Woods (as), Dick Kent (as), Maurice Bennett (ts), Don Kimmell (g/bjo), Emil Seidel (p), Paul Brown (bs), and Cliff Williams (d). His attempt to record a version with vocals in April of 1928 would go unreleased, as the instrumental was such a poor seller. “Star Dust” would go on to be one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century.
