April 10th in Gennett History…

1894: Happy 124th Birthday, Fess Williams! (4/10/1894). Williams and His Royal Flush Orchestra recorded around ten sides for Gennett in 1925 and 1926, including this classic “Wimmin – Aaah!” which appeared on Gennett 3259. 

 

King Oliver’s Gennett Walk of Fame Medallion

 

1938: King Oliver passed away. He recorded “Chimes Blues” in Richmond on 4/6/1923 in Richmond with Louis Armstrong (c), Honore Dutrey (tb), Johnny Dodds (cl), Lil Hardin Armstrong (p), Bill Johnson (bjo) and Baby Dodds (d).
