February 15th in Gennett History…

February 15th in Gennett History, 1930: Walter Taylor with His Washboard Trio recorded “Diamond Ring Blues” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 7189, Champion 15995, Supertone 9681, and Varsity 6044. The track featured John Byrd (g) and C.J. Anderson (bjo). A Champion royalty ledger noted to C. J. Anderson, John Byrd, Walter Taylor and W. R. Calaway, noted sales of approx. 800 copies between 1930 and 1931. It also notes that Anderson and Taylor would receive a 1/3, Byrd a 1/12th, and Calaway would receive a 1/4 of the royalties.
