September 5th in Gennett History…

1922: McMurray’s California Thumpers recorded “Blue” in NYC.  The recording appeared on Gennett 4943, Apex 464, and Starr Gennett 9292. 

 

1924: Homer Rodeheaver recorded “Glorious City” in NYC. The recording appeared on Gennett 5595 and Rainbow 1115.

1928: The Dunham Jubilee Singers recorded “Holy is My Name” in Richmond.  The recording appeared on Gennett 6625, Champion 15655, and Supertone 9303. A royalty accounting sent to Alf Dunham, noted sales of approx. 400 copies in 1929.  The recording featured the following vocalists: Charlie ‘Son’ Dunham, Rufus Beavers, Arthur Lee Turner, Leon Patrick, and Ben Ransaw.
