April 25th in Gennett History, 1927: Cryin’ Sam Collins recorded “Jailhouse Blues” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6167, Black Patti 8025, Bell 1173, Champion 15320, Herwin 92043, Silvertone 5127, and Supertone 9291. The Champion issue sold about 8,000 copies between 1927-1929, though the performers royalties were sent to Dennis Taylor.
