November 17th in Gennett History, 1928: Lawrence Welk and His Orchestra’s recorded “Doin’ the New Lowdown” in Richmond. It appeared on Gennett 6697 and Champion 15638 (George Tucker and His Novelty Orch.) The Champion issue sold approx. 700 copies between 1928 and 1932. 

Lawrence Welk and His Novelty Orchestra recorded “Spiked Beer” in Richmond. The recording appeared on Gennett 6712, Gurney 20341, and Champion 15639. The ledger noted “Personal, Lawrence Welk, Yankton, S.D.” The Gurney Seed and Nursery Co. was based in Yankton, S.D.
