Aug 14th in Gennett History, 1928: Van and His Hotel Half Moon Orchestra recorded “Pickin’ Cotton” in NYC. It appeared on Gennett 6594, Champion 15575, Regent R – 1075, and Supertone 9060. The Champion issue sold 750 copies in 1928 and 1929. The band featured Roy Strom (v), Red Rehrig and unknown (c), Lou Lentz (tb), Norman Birseck, Freddy Cusick, Art McKay (sax & cl), Dick Costello (p), Jimmy Smith (p & bjo), Joe Schultz (bass), Sol Misheloff (v), and Ray Gunnerman (d).
