July 18th in Gennett History, 1923: A very productive day in Richmond. Jelly Roll Morton recorded four sides (“Grandpa’s Spells,” “Kansas City Stomp,” “Wolverine Blues (Joys),” and “The Pearls (A Stomp”). The New Orleans Rhythm Kings recorded three sides (“London Blues,” “Millenberg Joys,” and “Mad (Cause You Treat Me This Way).” In between Morton and NORK, pianist Kyle ‘K.K.’ Pierce recorded two unissued sides – “I Forgave You” and “St. Louis Blues.” Here is NORK & Morton’s “Millenberg Joys.”
