July 14th in Gennett History, 1930: Lanin’s University Orchestra recorded “Here Comes The Sun” in NYC. The recording was released on Ge. 7234, Ch, 16039, Spr. 2550, & Spt. 9747. The band consisted of Claude Reese (v), Manny Klein (c), Jack Teagarden (tb), Joe Binyon (ts/cl), Arthur Schutt (p) with some belief of appearances by Jimmy Dorsey, Joe Venuti, Eddie Lang, etc. The Champion issue sold 1,161 copies between 1930 and 31.
